SCOPE OF THE SPECIAL ISSUE
Intelligent User Interfaces (IUI) aims at improving the symbiosis between humans and computers by merging two research fields: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). This may involve including intelligent capabilities in the interface in order to improve performance, usability and experience in critical ways. It may also involve designing an interface that effectively leverages human skills and capabilities, so that human performance with an application improves. Examples of application domains in which this synergism is necessary for improving the interaction experience are Recommender Systems, Adaptive Interfaces, Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing, Ambient Intelligence, Affective Computing, Information Visualization, etc.
Following the positive experience of AI*HCI 2013, the International Workshop on Intelligent User Interfaces - a Workshop of the XIII AI*IA Conference, we are very interested in contributions that bridge these two fields (AI and HCI) and also related fields, such as psychology, cognitive science, computer graphics, culture and arts, etc.
We invite mature paper submissions that describe novel user interfaces, applications, interactive and intelligent technologies, empirical studies, or design techniques.
Topics include but are not limited to:
* Novel User Interfaces and Interaction Techniques
* Natural Interaction
* Gesture Recognition
* Ambient Intelligence
* Brain Computer Interfaces
* Biometric Interfaces
* Human Robot Interface
* Conversational Interfaces
* Interfaces For Disable And Elderly People
* Assistive Devices/Technology
* Wearable And Pervasive Technologies
* Ubiquitous Interfaces
* Mobile HCI
* User Modeling and Adaptive Interfaces
* Affective Computing
* 3D Interfaces
* Intelligent Web-User Interfaces
* Novel Interfaces for the Social Web and Social Media
* Intelligent Information Visualization
PAPER SUBMISSION & REVIEW PROCESS
The prospective authors must first submit an extended abstract of no more than 4 single-spaced pages, formatted with 12-pt font and 1-inch margins, through Easychair:
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=si-aihci-14
by the 15th of June, 2014.
All submitted abstracts will receive an initial screening by the editors of the special issue.
The authors of the abstracts will be notified about the results of the initial screening by the 1st of July, 2014.
Abstracts that do not pass this initial screening (i.e., the abstracts that are deemed not to have a reasonable chance of acceptance) will not be considered further.
Authors of abstracts that pass the initial screening will be invited to submit the full version of the paper by 1st of August, 2014. The papers will be then peer-reviewed.
The formatting guidelines and submission instructions for full papers can be found at http://www.iospress.nl/journal/intelligenza-artificiale/. You can also download the latex sample files.
Papers should not exceed 18 pages in journal format. Each paper submission has to be submitted through Easychair:
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=si-aihci-14
The tentative timeline for the special issue is as follows:
* 15- 06-2014: Submission of extended abstracts
* 01- 07-2014: Notification regarding abstracts
* 01- 08- 2014: Submission of full papers
* 01-09- 2014: Final notifications due
* 15-09- 2014: Camera-ready papers due
* 09-12-2014: : Publication of special issue
